Under on Carbs? Here’s What to Eat.

One of the most common things I hear from people when talking about nutrition is that carbs are ‘bad for you’, ‘make you fat’, etc. Let me set the record straight…

Your body requires carbs to make glucose, which is your body’s main energy source. So, when we engage in activities that require energy (like living), it’s the fruits, vegetables, breads, rice, and pastas that provide that energy. Athletes especially require an ample amount of carbs to train hard and recover effectively, so on the days you’re running short, here are some suggestions to close that gap:

Pure Carbohydrate

  • Orange Juice | 100 grams: 0 fat, 10 carbs, 0 protein
  • Rice noodles (cooked) | 100 grams: 0 fat, 25 carbs, 0 protein
  • Maple Syrup | 100 grams: 0 fat, 67 carbs, 0 protein
  • Honey | 100 grams: 0 fat, 82 carbs, 0 protein
  • Sugar | 100 grams: 0 fat, 100 carbs, 0 protein

Carbs & Some Protein

  • Strawberry | 100 grams: 0 fat, 8 carbs, 1 protein
  • Butternut squash | 100 grams: 0 fat, 12 carbs, 1 protein
  • Potato | 100 grams: 0 fat, 17 carbs, 2 protein
  • Lentils | 100 grams: 0 fat, 20 carbs, 9 protein
  • Sweet Potato | 100 grams: 0 fat, 20 carbs, 2 protein
  • Brown rice (cooked) | 100 grams: 0 fat, 23 carbs, 3 protein
  • Couscous | 100 grams: 0 fat, 23 carbs, 4 protein
