Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Renee and I am an educational consultant by profession.

Why did you start flexible eating?

I started because Mae’s amazing results got my attention and I wanted to see what flexible eating was all about. It sounded too good to be true — the direct correlation between flex eating and results. Then, there is the very abstract idea of the six pack, something that has eluded me for over half a century.

What is your personal definition of flexible eating?

Flex eating is eating in a way that maximizes how food works in synergy with exercise levels to result in optimizing physical health, physical appearance, and psychological well-being.

What was your diet like before flexible eating?

I think my diet was healthy.  I ate lean protein, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, a big variety, etc.. I ate in a healthy way for health and to stay within certain personally desired body parameters. What was mainly different is the ratios were wrong. Not enough protein and too much of the other two.  From week to week I didn’t deprive myself of the pleasure of social eating.  I knew there was a price to pigging out or drinking, but I accepted that. There is a cost to anything fun, in my opinion. Even now, with flex eating, I do go crazy and off the grid sometimes, but not to the extreme because it doesn’t come with the feeling that “uh-oh, I messed up so might as well go for it.”  On days where delicious gastronomical choices present themselves I try to plan my macros but, there ain’t enough carbs in the galaxy for what I want to consume. But, as Georgette says, balance over the long run!

What has been your biggest breakthrough since flexible eating?

Ding-dong, the muffin top is almost gone.

What are your goals regarding flexible eating and beyond?

My goal is to know food macros well enough so I don’t need the app. I want eating in good ratios to become intuitive.  I’m not memorizing nutritional info, but I find that certain patterns are emerging that are a decent guideline for what macros are in what foods. As for beyond, I think that because I know all this, I cannot un-know it. So flex eating is probably going to be the way I eat forever.

What are your three most important guidelines you give yourself?

  • Don’t waste on empty macros

  • Portion control

  • Tomorrow is another day

What is the best piece of advice you wish you had when starting flexible eating that could help newbies?

You need to get a protein shake powder that gets you to the protein number if you don’t want to have to eat three chicken breasts before brushing your teeth to go to sleep.

Additional comments?

I feel and look totally better and I’m really amazed at how awesome flex eating is. It makes sense. I feed my dogs according to the best macros for health and performance, why wasn’t I doing the same for myself?  Also, I can honestly say this is the easiest and most effective way I have found to eat.
